Morehead-Cain Selection Calendar 2007–2008
August 2007
Morehead-Cain Foundation posts nomination and application materials and
instructions online. Nomination materials are distributed to North Carolina
and out-of-state high schools.
August to October 2007
High school Morehead-Cain Nominating Committees nominate students.
The number of nominees allowed from each North Carolina school is based on the size of the senior class as follows:

In addition to these nominated students, other qualified students who attend high school in North Carolina may apply directly.
Eligible out-of-state schools may nominate one student each.
All secondary schools in the United Kingdom are eligible to nominate one or more students for the Morehead-Cain.
September and October 2007
Students fill out the online Morehead-Cain application form.
October 5, 2007
Deadline for U.S. students to submit completed application materials
to the Morehead-Cain Foundation
October 12, 2007
Deadline for U.K. students to submit completed application materials to
the Morehead-Cain Foundation
October–November 2007
Morehead-Cain Foundation reviews nomination and application materials
of approximately 1,500 North Carolina candidates and selects 252 semifinalists
to attend regional interviews in January 2008. Students may be contacted
for telephone interviews.
November 1, 2007
Deadline for out-of-state students to apply
to UNC if they wish to be considered for the Morehead-Cain by the
UNC Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This is a non-binding application
deadline.
The Morehead-Cain Foundation encourages all school nominees and direct applicants to apply to UNC by the November 1 early notification deadline.
November 8–9, 2007
British Morehead-Cain interviews in London; British Morehead-Cain Selection
Committee selects four finalists to interview in Chapel Hill in March
2008.
December 7, 2007
Morehead-Cain Foundation notifies all out-of-state candidates of the results
of the screening and invites 65-75 finalists to final interviews in March
2008. The Foundation notifies all North Carolina nominees and applicants
of the results of the screening and invites semifinalists to regional
interviews in January 2008.
Early January 2008
Morehead-Cain Foundation requests Morehead-Cain application forms from
out-of-state students selected as at-large nominees by the UNC Office
of Undergraduate Admissions.
January 4–18, 2008
Regional interviews held across North Carolina.
Each of the 21 regional selection committees interviews 12 of the 252
semifinalists. 60–70 North Carolina finalists selected.
January 15, 2008
Regular notification deadline to apply to UNC for admission.
January 21, 2008
Deadline for UNC Office of Undergraduate Admissions at-large nominees
to submit completed application materials to the Morehead-Cain Foundation
January 25, 2008
Morehead-Cain Foundation notifies North Carolina semifinalists regarding
interview results; Morehead-Cain Foundation notifies UNC Admissions Office
at-large nominees of screening results, invites 10–15 to be
finalists.
March 1–4, 2008
Final interviews held in Chapel Hill; approximately 75-85 Morehead-Cain
winners selected.
March 5, 2008
Morehead-Cain Foundation notifies finalists regarding interview results.
March 7, 2008
Results of Morehead-Cain competition announced to the press; list of Morehead-Cain
winners posted on UNC and Morehead-Cain
Foundation Web sites.
April 14, 2008
Deadline for recipients to accept the Morehead-Cain Scholarship.
