Thank you for agreeing to write a recommendation for a Morehead-Cain applicant.

The Morehead-Cain Selection Committee seeks candidates who demonstrate evidence of the following qualities:

• Capacities to lead and to motivate fellow students;
• Scholastic ability;
• Physical vigor;
• Moral force of character.

Other qualities sought by the selection committee include initiative, creativity, perseverance, and empathy for others.

This year the Morehead-Cain Scholars Program is using an online School Recommendation form. As a result, letters of recommendation will ONLY be accepted electronically. If you know you are a specific student's Recommender, the student should have given you a PDF document that he/she downloaded from his/her application. This document provides a link to the online School Recommendation form and indicates how to submit the form. Once you access the online form, you will need to fill out the requested information and follow instructions for writing and uploading your letter of recommendation by the October 5, 2007 deadline (or the January 21, 2008 deadline for students who were nominated for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship by the UNC-Chapel Hill Admissions Office).

When you are writing your recommendation, please provide specific examples or anecdotes relating to the student's outstanding qualities and potential. Your personal observations of and experiences with the candidate will be most helpful since the selection committee already has access to the student's school transcript and activities. All information furnished by you will be held in strictest confidence and will not be shared with the student.
